Offensive Security, the developer behind the Backtrack and Kali Linux operating systems, has announced a few days ago that a new maintenance release of the Kali Linux distribution for forensic and penetration testing tasks is available for download.
Okay so I am currently running Windows 8 and have a Samsung Series 3 Laptop. Now, I already have Backtrack 5 r3 on a live dvd and it works perfectly. I can boot from the dvd with no problem. This is where I am:
1. I have secure boot disabled.
2. I have my boot priority set to dvd/cd first.
3. I used ISO Viewer to burn the image to the dvd.(also used ISO Viewer for backtrack 5)
After BackTrack 5 R3, the developers decided to retool and revamp their distribution. The result of their effort was released as Kali Linux. So the gist of this article is this: BackTrack is now known as Kali Linux
