AVI files dont play in VLC from ISO mounted disk

http://askubuntu.com – I noticed this problem many times and I would like to know if there is any solution. So when I mount ISO files and try to watch some AVI files I got vlc errors. If I copy and paste the same files from the mounted ISO files to any folder of my pc then VLC plays them great! Isn't it strange? Any solution for that? (HowTos)

Hi everyone, yesterday I faced a strange problem and can't find the solution yet: My SD Card seems to work just fine, I can see all the files with File explorer, open them, etc, but when I connect it to my MacBookPro it doesn't mount so I can copy-paste files on it.

I am running 12.04 live from cd and trying to copy some important files from a mounted hard disk to an external disk.

I just accidentally mounted a new drive to a folder that already contained files. I don't care about them and have them somewhere else, but that folder is obviously empty now. I'm curious what happened to the files. Are they simply deleted by Linux?

I use rsync (rsync-3.0.6-5.el6_0.1.x86_64 on Scientific Linux 6) to transfer files from a VFAT disk to an NFS mounted ext3 file system. I have ACLs set up on the ext3 system and all works as expected when i.e. creating new files or dirs (through the NFS mount, via command line or Nautilus).

You will sometimes need to use the command line to access the USB and transfer files from or to it. This usually happens when something wrong happens to X or when you try to install everything from scratches like with Arch Linux.

Hello! I have two hard drives and I want to determine time of copying files from one to other.

I'm pretty new to mount.

I have noticed that when I copy files to flash disk and in UI I see message copy completed in notification area on task bar, usually copy is not completed. So, if I eject the media I loose data. It is very serious problem because may cause loss of valuable and even critical data. Moreover, when it displays copy completed message I see files on flash drive, but closer look show their size is 0.

I have the following situation: I have two servers, one sharing files over CIFS, the other shares files by FTP. The FTP-Server has the CIFS Share mounted, and FTP users can download from this mount.

The Problem: When an FTP User downloads a "big" file (about 800MB) from the CIFS mount the download never stops and continues after reaching 100%.
