Hi there,
Perhaps somebody knows this one:
When I mount my external usb-drive within KDE it's mounted on /media/disk.
When I mount my external usb-drive (yes, the same one) within LXDE it's mounted on /media/72F580136411D534.
Not a great deal, but when I use DirSyncPro to backup some stuff I have to make adjustments to my saved settings, e.g.
I've got an external harddrive that I'd like to auto-mount. It will be present most times when my laptop boots. Where is the "correct" place to mount it?
/media/my-hd: Will litter /media with an empty folder when the hard-drive was not mounted.
/mnt/my-hd: I've heard that /mnt itself is supposed to be used as a temporary mount point.
Lately, I have dealt with a lot of hassle trying to get my external hard drive to work. I am sure that in the process of trying to fix one thing, I ended up messing up something else.
Basically, I can't mount both of my external drives. I can mount either one if the other isn't already mounted.
Before that, I couldn't see the files on my drive in Windows, but one problem at a time.
I have been facing a new and annoying problem after installing Apache2 on my new 12.10 distribution.
I have done this at least 20 times before with older distributions and had no problems up until now.
The partition on my external is named EXT4.
My fstab configuration has always worked, but recently (and somewhat out of the blue,) my Ubuntu has started to attempt to mount my usb hard-drive twice.
The error is
Unable to mount cloud
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: according to mtab, /dev/sde1 is already mounted on /media/cloud
mount failed
Where 'Cloud' is the name of my usb hard-drive.

Hello folks. :)
I have an external drive mounted that I want to mount at /media/Storage. I used disk utility and then gparted as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RenameUSBDrive to change the label of the drive to "Storage." Whenever the drive mounts, however, it mounts at a location like /media/STORAGE_x. It has also been STORAG_x, and I think a "~u" was appended once.
Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on my HP Pavillion tx2000 laptop. Most things are working swell, but my USB HD (which is a FreeAgent Desktop 1TB, not so new model) is having some problems.
I have added my mount devices in /etc/fstab and they get correctly mounted (2nd partition with ntfs and nas-share with nfs).
I have also disabled automount in Nautilus preferences by using dconf-editor (following this post):
user@server:~$ gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.desktop.media-handling
org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount false
org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount-open
