https://bbs.archlinux.org – Hi all.  I was wondering if there is any way to automatically extend my display using xorg or xrandr based on whether a monitor is plugged in or not.  The use case is as follows:  I have a laptop and monitor, but I don't always have my laptop plugged into my monitor.  I want to extend the display when its plugged in, but fallback to only the laptop's screen when it's not, without hotkeys.  Is there any way to do this? toaster2 https://bbs.archlinux.org/profile.php?id=53425 2012-08-20T03:06:27Z (HowTos)

I'm having some problems with a multi monitor setup in Ubuntu:

The launcher will appear on the laptop monitor if the external monitor isn't plugged in on startup. If the external monitor is plugged in on startup it will appear on that monitor.

Hi, guys.I am using Arch on my laptop. When I am at home, I use my laptop plugged in a 23" flat screen via HDMI port.But when I use it plugged in to the external monitor, the system boots showing the image only on the external screen, like I want.

I am using MSI VR440 laptop http://www.msi.com/product/nb/VR440.html#?div=Specification . The laptop uses SIS Graphics card and has the resolution of 1280x800.

When I connect a desktop LCD monitor Samsung with the resolution of 1366x768, the desktop monitor displays the same resolution as that of the laptop, showing the copy of the laptop's monitor and making it distorted.

I've recently purchased a First FSM-270YG 27 inch monitor from ebay, and have been having troubles gettint it to play nicely as a second monitor for my Toshiba portege R830-13C.

When starting the laptop with the monitor plugged in (using an dvi-d to hdmi cable), the second monitor isn't used.

I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. The problem I am having is that when I close the lid on the laptop it also shuts off the video signal to my external monitor. I do not want this to happen. I have no reason to have the built in laptop monitor running while I am plugged into an external monitor.

I just got a second monitor so I can have dual screens on my desktop computer. I just upgraded to the 12.04 Beta because I thought it supports multiple monitors. My main monitor is plugged into my NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] and the other monitor that I am trying to get working is plugged into the VGA head on the Motherboard and that one isn't being detected.

I have a Asus hd monitor plugged into my nvidia card and a monitor plugged into my intel graphics card. I have this setup because the second monitor is an older apple cinema plasma display with a dvi interface. It's interface will not fit next to my Asus monitor on the gpu. In windows I can get a dual monitor setup no problem. My motherboard is a Z68 Gigabyte.

Bump.. I'm getting this error too.  I can't compile firefox 18.0.1 from source using abs.  I have a ivy bridge i5 and am using march=native.  Does anyone know how to get this working?

Yes, it will do the 2560x1600 + laptop monitor in Windows 7 just fine.
