The iPhone 5 is now on sale in most launch markets starting today, and as daylight approaches on the U.S. west coast, the coveted device will be hitting that market as well. According to early reviews, it’s a great device, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right one for everybody. Even if you’re still a potential iPhone buyer, the lineup has never looked so good.
Apple’s search engine is mistakenly revealing the details of today’s Apple news announcements in advance of today’s press event where it’s been expected Apple will announce new iPhones. As spotted first by the folks at 9to5, a search for “iPhone-5 on Apple’s website indicates that is, indeed, what’s happening today.
And that’s a wrap! The Apple Store is back up now, following this morning’s announcement of the new LTE-enabled iPhone 5′s, which are going to be the same price as the iPhone 4S’s. To refresh your memory, that’s $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB (on-contract pricing with AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon).
Apple today announced that it managed to rack up 2 million pre-orders for the iPhone 5 in 24 hours, two times as many as it managed for the iPhone 4S last year, which sold over 1 million devices during its first 24 hours of pre-order sales.
The iPhone 5 is real and nearly ready to ship and we got a bit of hands-on time with it today. The new phone is just a bit longer than the current iPhone 4S and far speedier. Maps and photos flew by and the various apps popped up in a few seconds.
It’s not as earth-shattering different than the iPhone 4S, to be sure.
Just about an hour after Apple’s iPhone 5 became available for pre-order, the company’s website started alerting customers that their phones would likely arrive a week or two after the phone went on sale in its retail stores on September 21.
You’d think that doing an iPhone 5 Fly Or Die would be a piece of cake, what with 2 million pre-orders in 24 hours, but it’s not so simple. All the complaining of boredom and slight lack of innovation out of Apple… well, it’s not too far off of the truth.
Apple took a huge risk with the original iPhone, and even with the iPod.

We’ve found that the fastest way to order one is through the Apple Store App. As a reminder, the iPhone 5 is $199 on contract for the 16GB version, the 32GB model is $299, and for those with large media libraries, the $399 version is 64GB. An unlocked version is coming to the U.S.
