This is for cards that need the current driver. If you need a legacy driver (173 or 96) there are dkms packages as well, but I have no way to test them. Good luck!I have seen a few people having trouble with the proprietary Nvidia drivers on crunchbang. It should not be this way as installing the Nvidia drivers is quite painless in Debian.
I have installed newest Nvidia drivers (from their site with the .run file) on my laptop with Nvidia Geroce 420M.
After some time I decided to try out open source drivers there I went to System Settings -> Software Sources -> Additional drivers and clicked Open source drivers and applied the changes.
After a reboot I have had no Unity panel shown when I logged into the system.
Hi
I had an error when I booted my PC telling me that an update had failed and that I should run a partial update to fix the issue.
I rand the update
After I rebooted I found my Proprietary Nvidia drivers weren't installed.
OK, so I know that other people asked exactly the same... but I just moved from Nouveau to Nvidia using this tutorial, and the new drivers are really, really, really slow. How can I remove Nvidia drivers and recover the open ones?
I have used rEFIt to achieve triple-boot on my 15' Retina Macbook Pro. However, for now I cannot get the nVidia drivers to work under Ubuntu 12.04 x64.
Every time after I installed the nVidia Driver, X won't restart, and give me an error of "No screens found".
I have tried both drivers from nVidia's website and drivers from Proprietary Drivers in Ubuntu's System Settings.
hi guys, quick question. how do i install nvidia drivers 173 in xubuntu 12.04, either from nvidia site or from x swat ppa? cause in additional drivers section nothing comes up. i'm using a geforce 5600XT and i really don't wanna use the open source drivers. cheers.

only when i use open source drivers desktop shows
any way to fix this ??
thank you in advanced
I can't seem to understand this for the life of me. Why is it that the versions of the Nvidia drivers always seem to be so far behind the version available directly from Nvidia? I'm assuming this is the case, as I just upgraded my Nvidia driver to 195.x using the repository through Yast2 and it broke my X configuration. No matter what I did it refused to play nice.
*NOTE* Before you read this Howto:Graphic card driver installation is not an exact 100% science. There are many different graphics cards which require different drivers. Some will work with the Linux reverse-engineered versions, others need the proprietary Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia web page. This guide may not work for your card.
