I can't seem to successfully install ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post release updates).
Ubuntu 11.10
ATI All In Wonder video card
I have attached screen shots of System Info - Additional Drivers, and jockey.log
I've searched Google and Ubuntu forums but can't seem to find anything that applied to my problem.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Cheers,
Bill Roberts
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 and I want to enable my graphics drivers so I can play games. Right now there are two options within the Special Drivers area of System Settings: The graphics driver and the graphics driver (post release updates). It sounds like I want the post release updates but whenever I click to enable it I get this message: look in var/log/jockey.log.
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.2 and when I went to install the proprietary AMD/ATI drivers, I was given three choices:
ATI FGLRX -post release update
ATI FGLRX -experimental beta
Experimental AMD binary Xorg driver and kernel module
I installed first the post release update, but when I went to additional drivers it stated the driver is activated but not currently in use.
I have recently have upgraded to Ubutnu 11.10 and I have not been able to activate by ATI Radeon Mobility HD5400 driver. I have been able to activate the ATI/AMD propreitary FGLRX graphics driver using the AMD wiki, but I cannot activate the (post-release update) driver.

Fresh install of 12.04
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880 [Radeon HD 4200]
'Additional Drivers' shows ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver, and ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release updates) as not installed. ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver says it installs successfully when I try.
I'm aware that this is a pretty vague description, but it's the best I can do: When I try to open games through the applications menu, nothing happens. I've used top to check if any processes start running, but they don't. I've been trying Braid, Bastion and Nexuiz, and all have the same problem.
I have just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu (12.04.1 LTS 64 bit). I formated my PC completely & enabled updates during the installation.
After the installation was complete, I went on updating my software.
I have a question on ATI Drivers. From what I understand there is 2 ways of installing it. One is to go to Hardware drivers that's under System->Administration and activate Restricted ATI driver. Second way is to go to amd.com and download latest driver and then install it.
