I've got a new system that I've been setting up Fedora 12 x86_64 on, but I'm having a little trouble with video / driver issues. I tried (against the Fedora recommendations, I know..) the fglrx drivers, now my system now boots to a black screen with no console.. I can type to my heart's content but it does no good.
I have a question on ATI Drivers. From what I understand there is 2 ways of installing it. One is to go to Hardware drivers that's under System->Administration and activate Restricted ATI driver. Second way is to go to amd.com and download latest driver and then install it.
Hi,
yesterday i took the plunge and installed linux(fedora 17) on my mac pro so its all still very new to me. It went remarkably well till I decided to try and update the ati drivers . I have an ati radeon hd4870 was hoping to get opengl3.0 support by upgrading my drivers. I noticed ati had a new set of drivers on thier site (amd-driver-installer-12.6-legacy-x86.x86_64.run).
Hi Everybody,
Please HELP!
I have a problem with installation of ATI radeon driver.
After installation i'm running "sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx", the configuration failed and at the end of /var/log/SaX.log I have:
(II) LoadModule: "fglrx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules//drivers/fglrx_drv.so
I have managed to install the drivers, but after installing those drivers moving different windows such as browser is very laggy.
Why is that? I also tried older drivers, but they all have the same problem. I have ATI Radeon HD5850.
I installed this driver: AMD Catalystâ„¢ 11.11 Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver.
I wanted to replace the old driver that comes from the "Additional Drivers" window with the newest ATI Catalyst driver. I tried installing Catalyst, but it said I had to remove the old driver, so i did. I tried again, but it still said the old driver was still installed, so i figured a reboot might solve the problem. Now I can't boot back up. I can't even get to the purple screen.
So I'm not a total noob at ubuntu, but this feels like a noob question. I recently installed 12.10 on my desktop and I can't run minecraft anymore, it's just a black screen. I assume this is a video driver issue.
I currently am running Fedora 17 with 2 different monitors on a ATI 4870 series video card with stock drivers. The system runs beautifully as is, but I'd like to add a matching video card plus one more monitor. My question is can I simply do this with my existing system & drivers or would I need to start over and redo everything?
After installation, I saw "Additional Drivers" Under Hardware. I have a AMD 7750 video card, which I understand is supported by Ubuntu native drivers, so I assumed these drivers were for my card.
