Asus Xonar UI: sound is disappointing in Ubuntu.

http://askubuntu.com – I bought an Asus Xonar U1 external soundcard when I was running Windows Vista. I installed UBuntu a couple of months ago and sound "works" - meaning that I hear music when I'm supposed to hear it. However, the sound is disappointingly thin compared to what I was getting with Vista. In Ubuntu's sound settings, I have the hardware set to "Digital Stereo Duplex"; changing to "Digital Stereo" makes it even worse. I'm probably going to install the alsamixergui app (if I don't already have it) to try to tweak the sound. 1) Has anyone figured out how to get good sound out of this sound card runni (HowTos)

I have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.2 64-bit with all updates installed, however there is no sound from my Xonar DX sound card. In Hardware Information, the sound card is shown as "Virtuoso 100 (Xonar DX)". How would I get my sound card to work?

I have this problem. During 2 years i used a xbmc mediacenter system with ubuntu 11.04 64bit. My mediacenter has an Asus Xonar D1 audio card connected to a homemade amplifier. I''m running Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit on my laptop with an external Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro sound card plugged in via USB.

If I have output selected to stereo output then everything plays fine in stereo. However if I select surround 5.1 output then a fast clicking sound emits from all speakers, both when playing or sound or not.

I currenlty connect my PC via Optical cable to my 7.1 surround sound system, but i only get stereo sound from the connection.

I have a Xonar DG sound card working great in Ubuntu 12.10. It has a built in headphone amp and it sounds amazing.

However the microphone does not work.

I have poked around online and it seems many users have this issue. Even the Alsa page lists this card as 'working', but 'microphone not working'.

My Gigabyte motherboard has onboard sound and a mic input.
