Ok, Josh answered almost immed.! I need to know specifically, now that I am using Nvidia card effectively, do I need to allow update manager to update the intel gr. drivers?
I must add, I believe I know why Update Manager is telling me I need to update those Intel gr. drivers.
Finished installing Ubuntu 10.10 in my XPS15, intel i5 4g ram, nvidia GT 420M graphics card,
problem is when i go to additional drivers, the driver listed (Nvidia accelerated graphics) when I install it and reboot it the computer starts on the terminal, no graphic interface.
Hi all,
I am experiencing the ubuntu 12.10 black screen error so many people are having issues with. I have an Asus EEE netbook and I believe that the new update is not compatible with my graphics card. At first the icons went strange then after reboot it just went to black screen.
I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my ASUS EEEPc 1005PEB for school, but I have decided to sell it, and when I go to boot my live USB for Windows 7 on the Netbook it doesn't work. It just boots to a black screen with a cursor. I've tested the USB on my other computer and it boots just fine.
I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my Laptop (Intel Dual Core/Nvidia Graphics).
I am able to boot from cd and I reach the purple screen (here)
But after this screen there is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have seen all the similar topics but haven't solved it yet.
I tried installing Ubuntu on my netbook through a bootable USB a few days back. After installation I happened to use Ubuntu for quite some time and later shut down my netbook.
When I tried booting the netbook again, it just shows a black screen with a blinking cursor after the initial Asus screen. I tried opening BIOS by pressing F2 but it ain't coming either.
What should I do?
Today I updated my 13.04. There is new Kernel 3.8.0.13.27. I ran update through "Software Updater", the update went fine and I had to restart my machine.
After restart Ubuntu booted to a black screen. I could hear the login-ready sound, after waiting for some more time I restarted again.
I installed 11.10 on my desktop. After the intro screen from the Intel motherboard, I just get a black screen. I've looked at the various fixes online which would require access to tty1 but hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work for me. I just remain stuck at the screen.
First of all, Ubuntu normally works fine on my desktop, but there is one problem:
Sometimes (starting last week) the computer shows the BIOS screen while booting, but then displays a black screen. If I restart the computer by pressing the power-button, the PC starts normally.
What can I do?
