I've been using CDs and 4.5 GB DVDs to record large format camera images, but now I find I need to use larger size DVDs for that purpose.
I had a few Office Depot DVD+R DL DVDs which record at 2.4 X, but I now need to order faster recording ones.
My computer and DVD drive are relatively new having been purchased in the last wo years.
What considerations should I consider in choosing these DVDs
novice at video - i'de lik4 to load all my dvds to disk so i can select and play them without swapping disks anymore. i've heard the term "ripping" but not vsure what to do. i'd like the menus, movie, extras, etc., just like using the disk itself. I've just "downsized" by selling al of my computers. i have found i can do a lot simple things just using my tablet.
I own a Sony VAIO VPCEA35FL Laptop, and I'm having problems burning CDs/DVDs.
It seems that the burn process itself works, but once the disc is done, it can't be played.
I tried Brasero and k3b, both without success.
Sometimes the TOC can be read without a problem, but the data never is readable.
Also, when I try to play video DVDs, the dvd drive becomes noisier and usually the video stops for a f

You can thank HP for using up all four of the primary partitions on the disk, leaving you with none for expansion.
IMHO, the best solution is this:
Boot Windows
Locate the utility to burn a recovery DVD set and run this utility.

Happy 2010! Its great to be back from vacation, and its time to start getting a jump on the new year. Part of that is getting openSUSE 11.2 media to ambassadors and folks running open source events.
I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed on my computer (Sony Vaio VGN-NS205N). It reads some CDs and DVDs just fine, but many others it will not recognize at all, or will only recognize after opening and closing the CD tray many times. It just shows the cd/dvd drive as being empty and won't show that anything is on there at all. I have a few DVDs (from the same publisher) that work every time.
There are a few different programs for ripping DVDs on Linux. The following details my personal experience with four different applications over the last week and a half.more ...
I have a few questions about loading dvds to my hard disk for later playback in something like xmbc.
do i just create iso images? I've looked at the the wiki for xmbc but it's not real clear about what to do with iso images so they are indexed, etc.
i'm familiar with playback of css disks, but anything beyond that i'm a complete novice withe all things video.
thanks
