ASUS, ACER, MSI and many others had a favour of their netbook in the market sporting an Intel Atom processor and running one of their own customised versions of Linux. This was a market hit for sometime until Microsoft decided to supply for next to nothing Windows XP, a version of their Windows operating system which they were planning to discontinue, on the netbooks.
