Linaro announces the formation of the Linaro Enterprise Group (LEG). Linaro is a not-for-profit engineering organization that develops open source software for ARM architecture.
Facebook, Red Hat, Hewlett-Packard and the other companies backing Linaro's initiative are going to develop Linux OS software for the next generation of ARM-based servers, which should result in low cost but powerful dedicated servers with all the flexibility that comes with Linux. Linux, of course, is already a phenomenon on the dedicated servers market.
ARM, Samsung, Texas Instruments, Freescale Semiconductor, IBM and ST-Ericsson create Linaro a not for profit organization based on Linux and the open source, aimed to develop System-on-Chip (SoC).
Linaro announced an open-platform $199 & Origen& development board made by InSignal that incorporates Samsung's dual-core Cortex-A9 Exynos 4210 processor, a Mali400 GPU, and Linaro open source Linux and Android BSPs.
Canonical announced that it had joined the Linaro Enterprise Group, an organization that aims to accelerate the integration of ARM-based servers. Besides announcing the Linaro Enterprise Group action, Canonical also revealed its Ubuntu hyperscale roadmap, which includes support for ARM V8 ISA.
IT Pro: "A coalition of major technology firms has come together to create Linaro, a not-for-profit group aimed at promoting the creation of Linux-based portable devices and Linux software for the ARM System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture."
