I am currently using a 5770, but the problem is the drivers ati provided aren't really good. Does anyone know of open source drivers?
Also im fairly new to linux/ubuntu. :D
I have managed to install the drivers, but after installing those drivers moving different windows such as browser is very laggy.
Why is that? I also tried older drivers, but they all have the same problem. I have ATI Radeon HD5850.
I installed this driver: AMD Catalystâ„¢ 11.11 Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver.
Hello,I've just installed Crunchbang Statler on my laptop (feels at home again :D)But I was wondering on how to install my videocard's drivers again. On Crunchbang 9.04 I downloaded them from the ATi website and install them and on Arch I'd use the opensource drivers through pacman. How would I do this on Debian?
OK so I just got Ubuntu the other month or so. I'm running the 11.04 version currently and trying to install drivers for a Nvidia graphics card (it's my brother's computer and he currently cannot find the number of the card right now). I read that, to install the proper drivers for gaming, I would need to go into "Additional Drivers" and choose them myself.
Recently Intel released their opensource driver tool (https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloa...hics-installer) which auto-selects the right drivers for your intel chipset. Because I started using Steam on Linux to play some older games I thought I would use the Intel 'official' drivers to ensure I get the best performance.
Currently I'm running the AMD chip full time with fglrx drivers, and I get OK battery life. I would like to get another hour or two though, which I feel is quite possible by switching to the Intel HD4000 chip. In reading the forums I see that it's possible to do via EFI boot, some kernel patches, using both opensource drivers, and vgaswitcheroo.
That isn't quite ideal though.
TweetSo, I blew my Graphic card today and while troubleshooting the issue I tried to install proprietary Nvidia drivers. But in order to do that you are required to remove nouveau drivers from the system.
I have a built-in HD4200 which can be run alongside my HD6870, at least it could until ATI seperated the drivers. In Windows I have had to downgrade to 12.4 and stay there, but that isn't possible in linux without downgrading the kernel, and everything that relies on it. I think the opensource driver will run them all together, but it had terrible tearing the last time I used it.
When I was using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS I could install the proprietary driver from the specific menu from the settings but since I've installed Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 it can't find any proprietary drivers. I know where the menu is now in transferred (Software Sources > Additional Drivers tab) so don't think that is the reason.
How could I install proprietary drivers in Ubuntu 12.10?
Thanks
