My user's home folder is set and everything, and I am using nautilus to handle my files. Right clicking produces no result such as a drop down menu and such in the desktop either, so I cannot directly change my background to anything. Here's a screen shot.http://i.imgur.com/MlSnC.jpgI'm not really quite sure what sets the desktop environment & etc like this.

Why do you wan't to install catalyst from AMD's site? Any special reason? That is completely unadvised, once arch AUR already has it, all you need to know is in here:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Catalyst

The ArchLinux Wiki has the best documentation available and with the problems you describe here, if it does not suffice, ArchLinux is likely not for you.Everyone can install ArchLinux and most can use it, but it does require more from the user than Ubuntu and such.https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/The_Arch_Wayhttps://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide
