I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, and am running into a problem I've not seen before. This is on an Ubuntu 12.04 system. I can't find Screenshot. I'm trying to take a shot of a screen from a web page, go to Dash, type in Screenshot, and nothing shows up. I've done this many times before, but suddenly Screenshot is not found.
Folks,
I just upgraded 10.x to 12.x and now have a very unwanted DE (dash/launcher). The bar across the top is unable to anchor any apps, etc. How do you get rid of this DE and return to that of 10.x . Please point me to the help for customizing dash/launcher. I saw another thread asking about this bar across the top.
I recently upgraded to 11.10, but now my Dash Home has no content. No search bar, no apps, not even an empty dash windowpane. Basically, I click on Dash Home, the launcher turns translucent, but nothing else happens.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Does anyone know how to write a macro for a special character?
I know LibreOffice currently doesn't have a way to set a special character to a keyboard shortcut. However, I want to work around this with a macro. My plan is to create a macro for a special character then set a keyboard shortcut to that macro. Problem is I don't know the first thing about writing a macro.
In this question I do not want to customize the launcher for each workspace, or change the animations or behaviors of the icons. I only want to change how the background of the Launcher looks. Let me show you what I mean:
If I do not open the Dash, the launcher looks like the following:
It looks like this because I have a background that has gray, black and white colors.
Some webpages I go to seem to have blank square characters in the text where there should be a special character. Curious, I went ahead and opened a binary file in my text editor, KWrite.
I've recently started having an issue between conky and Ubuntu dash. When the dash is opened the area where my conky is set up will continue to show conky.
I have a line ending with special character and 0
The special character is the field separator for this line
in VI mode the file will look like below, but while cat the special character wont display
i know the hexa code for the special character ^_ is \x1f and ascii code is
\0037,
Code:
000^_^_^_^_^_^_0.000000^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_0^_0.000000^_^_^_^_0^_0^_^_^_0

I'm able to locate stuff with the dash home then drag it down to the launcher bar on the left of the desktop, but what if the application installed via Wine isn't found via the dash search? I've right clicked on the application in the .wine directory and found no options to create a launcher either.
