On one side, Adobe and its Flash platform is the reigning champion. Flash has been the powerhouse behind the distribution of video and other rich web content. But coming out of the other corner is the challenger. With the muscle of Safari running on the mobile powerhouses of the iPhone and iPad, Apple is seeking to break Adobe's hold by embracing HTML5. Adobe's Flash is still the dominant rich media platform on the Internet, but HTML5 is coming. Love it or hate it Adobe's Flash technology is a key part of the Internet as it currently exists. It hasn't always been so and it may not remain so for much longer if the likes of Google, Apple and Microsoft have anything to do with it.

Adobe this week has expressed confidence Apple will cave eventually on its stubborn blocking of Flash on the iPhone.

Adobe's Flash download page is displaying a message:

NOTE: Adobe Flash Player 11.2 will be the last version to target Linux as a supported platform. Adobe will continue to provide security backports to Flash Player 11.2 for Linux.

What is the plans for Flash support in the future?

With a bit of luck HTML5 media support will drop website developer's dependency on Flash.

While continuing to bicker with Apple about the non-availability of Flash on the iPhone and iPad, Adobe has bad news for those with other mobile devices. Flash won't be available on Android, WebOS, or BlackBerry either until the second half of this year, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen said in an interview with FOX Business....
