Oh my, our broken patent system is at it again. Yesterday Apple was awarded patent D670,286, which is a design patent pertaining to the iPad’s “ornamental” design.
Read between the lines, and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) seems to be positioning VP of Design Stacy Wolff (left) as the company’s answer to Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) Senior VP of Industrial Design Jonathan Ive (right). But can Wolff and HP really match (and perhaps leapfrog) Apple’s MacBook Air, iMac and iPad designs?

Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) is making its latest Ultrabook pitch to Tech Data (NASDAQ: TECD) channel partners during a conference today in Orlando. “The entire ecosystem is rallying around Ultrabook to deliver solutions,” asserted David Allen, director, distribution and DMR sales, North America, Intel.
On Tuesday, a German court ruled the Motorola Xoom, made by Google Inc.’s Motorola Mobility, does not infringe on Apple’s iPad. In addition, Motorola had claimed the iPad’s design patent was invalid which was denied by the court.
Apple’s main goal was to have the device banned across Europe, claiming the design of the Xoom infringed upon three iPad designs.
