apache wont change listening port

http://serverfault.com – I edit httpd.conf and add Listen 5900 . But xampp control panel status displays port 80 when i restart apache. Why it refuses to change port? Which is the correct syntax to edit the httpd file? (HowTos)

This is not your usual 404.

So before this 404, I was getting a 503. I fixed that by changing the listen port on my httpd.conf file from 80 to 8080.

When I was getting the 503, I was unable to start my apache server at all.

I have a webserver built via virtualbox that I had running fine with Port 80. I am currently trying to change the port # to 8088 so that our IT people can open it to the outside world to allow external connections. I have edited my httpd.conf and changed the listen directive as well as added a virtualhost entry for *:8088. I have also added the port into selinux.

I just made a change to my PHP.ini file. (my Linux dist is CentOS).

Background: We have been trying to get a wildcard SSL working on multiple sub domains on a single dedicated address.. We have two sub domains next.my-personal-website.com and blog.my-personal-website.com

Part of our strategy has been to edit the httpd.conf and add the NameVirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443 directive and the virtualhost entries for port 443 for the subdomains there.

I currently setup a port in my router. Port Number is 2300 and I wanted to share a site on my WAMP server. I know how to setup port forwarding so that can't be the issue. But when I go to {My-IP}:2300 I just get "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to {MY-IP}:2300". I changed Listen 80 to Listen 2300 in the Apache httpd.conf file.

I'm building my own custom content management system for a my websites. I want the content management-site to be available through another port so I can do this: www.mysite.com:8844. The server I use has Plesk 10 installed on it.
