Hello, I looking for becoming a Solaris system administrator. Background: I consider myself an entry-level Linux system administrator.
I don't know if I start my studies with Solaris 10 or 11.
I'm wanting to install Solaris 11.1 on a system that already has Windows and Red Hat and a boot system managed by GRUB.
From what I've read, the Solaris 11.1 install will recognize Windows fine and account for it with GRUB 2.
Hi all. Im new to programming and Unix. Want to start learning to use Solaris 11. I have 2 boxes currently and want to run an all in one Solaris Box to act as a file server, web server ect. I want to use the second box as my main programming box that is as close to a Solaris OS as possible that has better Browser support. Seems with Solaris Firefox is the only browser I am able to use.

I have Solaris 10 and 11 running on my system. I want to update all of them to newest patch.
I don't have license or support plan for Solaris yet (the OS is pre-installed on my server).
On Solaris 11 I heard I need a support license and a cert to connect to Oracle software repository. What about Solaris 10?
Using the gparted live CD I created a partition for Solaris 11 and left unallocated space for Fedora 17 but my issue is when I install Solaris on the partition I made then install Fedora on the unallocated space I cannot access Solaris and there is no option in the grub menu to boot into Solaris 11. Can someone tell me how I can install Fedora 17 and still be able to boot into Solaris 11?
I have three PCs in a LAN network.
1. Solaris 10 10/09 x86 ip adres: 192.168.30.120 netmask:255.255.255.0
2. Solaris 10 10/09 x86 ip adres: 192.168.30.48 netmask:255.255.255.0
3. LINUX Suse 11 ip adres: 192.168.30.50 netmask:255.255.255.0
The heading for Suse Linux UDP packets to PC 2
The first PC program scans LAN via wireshark or snoop.
At my new job, they want me to use a solaris 8 operating system, but all my coding experience has been on linux. Linux had a lot of tools built into the system, but it seems like the solaris I'm using is extremely stripped down.
I was wondering if someone can tell me how to install vim or emacs (preferably emacs) on solaris 8. I tried google but I couldn't find any download links for solaris 8.
It has been over 10 yrs since I last worked with solaris. I just recently was given a sparc station 20 which I installed solaris 8 on. I had backups of the ichat software with scripts installed from the earlier machine. I have no idea how to edit these and get ichat back up and running. Any and all help is deeply appreciated!
Thanks!
