Like any other distribution study, the Android team takes time and does measurements of devices that access the Play Store and verifies which version of the Android OS users are on when accessing the Play Store. As you can see per the lovely pie chart and grid, we see that Gingerbread 2.3.3 – 2.3.7 overwhelmingly runs the majority of Android devices, though you can see the tasty Ice Cream Sandwich OS slowly creeping up— taking a 23.7% market share. It’s time for another episode of Android’s current distribution everyone. In this segment, we’ll see Gingerbread’s long-standing domination finally being challenged by Ice Cream Sandwich. Since Android 4.0′s introduction back in October, there’s been the clear trend highlighting the significant increase of devices operating on the latest OS.

  Well friends, it’s about that time see the latest Android distribution trends. As previously predicted, we’re not only a gradual increase of Ice Cream Sandwich-based devices, but we’re beginning to see a sudden spike of Jelly Bean-based devices as well.

Google has updated their Android Distribution chart and 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich can now be found on 15.9% of Android Devices. Most of the power packed devices of 2011 have been updated, like the HTC EVO 3D and the Galaxy S II line.

Use of Android is constantly evolving and the latest distribution data shows Gingerbread on devices is down while use of Jelly Bean is up 3.2 percent. This news comes just one month after our last reported findings. To Android enthusiasts’ dismay however, Gingerbread is still on the majority of devices at 44.2 percent.

It’s the beginning of a new month, which means Google has updated its worldwide Android distribution numbers. Surprisingly, recent versions of Android now account for a large percentage of the overall distribution of devices. Ice Cream Sandwich has made a significant jump to nearly 21%, up from 16% this time last month.

Google released the latest Android version numbers showing the distribution of all Android versions, collected from all the devices that access the Google Play Store during the last two weeks of the month.

It’s a brand new month, which means it’s time for a fresh look at the distribution of current and past Android versions. As we had anticipated, Jelly Bean has grown ever so slightly, reaching just 2.7 percent of Android users, up from 1.8 percent in October.

New data on the state of the Android ecosystem has been posted to Google’s Android Developers site. The big reveal? Gingerbread, the version of the Android mobile operating system released back in December 2010, is still leading with 57.5% of Android OS share. Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is at 20.9%, and Android 2.2 (Froyo) has 14%. Yes, Froyo – released in May 2010.

The last time we looked at the Android version number distributions, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich had a 4.9% piece of the total Android pie. Google just released the latest numbers for the two weeks leading up to June 1st, and now we see ICS has grown 2.2% to a total of 7.1%. Though the growth is admirable, keep in mind that the ICS SDK was released 8 months ago in October.
