Not that everyone else was necessarily hurting -- iOS still had a 45.9 percent slice of the pie, and the continued Window phone 8 rollout took Microsoft up to 3.2 percent. (General)

Global smartphone sales will rise 57.7 percent in 2011 year-over-year, with the boom continuing through 2015, bolstered, more than harmed, by tablet sales, says Gartner. This year, Android will take the lead in smartphone sales with 38.5 percent, and represent 48.8 percent in 2015, followed by second-place Microsoft Windows Phone, which will soar to 19.5 percent, projects the research firm....

Worldwide mobile device sales reached 428.7 million units in the second quarter, representing a 16.5 percent increase from 2Q 2010, while smartphone sales grew 74 percent in that period, according to Gartner. Android saw the biggest increase in smartphone share, jumping to 43.4 percent, while Microsoft dropped to 1.6 percent, says the research firm....

Nielsen reports that 31 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers said they would prefer Android for their next phone, compared to 30 percent for the iPhone. Overall, Nielsen estimates that 37 percent of smartphone subscribers and 50 percent of recent subscribers use Android phones, up sharply from January....

Well, folks, the July 2012 ComScore numbers are in and we’re seeing more of the same… Samsung and Android are both still leading in market share. Sammy posted a 25.6 percent lead in the U.S. market, down 0.3 percent from April, but still dominant overall.

The Android platform tops the list in sales of smartphone operating systems for the first quarter of 2011, according to a report by market researcher Gartner. Total smartphone sales accounted for 23.6 percent of global handset units overall, and various phones sporting Google's Android OS took 36 percent of that market. They sold more than 36.3 million units in the quarter.

ComScore today reported on trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending November 2012. Their survey of 30,000 U.S.

Android has continued to gain smartphone OS market share this spring, gaining four percentage points from February through May to take 13 percent of the market, says ComScore. Meanwhile, a recent Pew report shows that 40 percent of Americans are now using mobile phone Internet services, up from 32 percent in 2009....

Today during Apple’s Q1 2013 conference call, CEO Tim Cook was asked about whether Apple was concerned about Apple’s overall market share in smartphones.

Driven by smartphone sales, the mobile phone market rebounded with 21.7 percent year-to-year growth in the first quarter of 2010, IDC says. Meanwhile, as of April 1 Android was available on 34 different devices from 12 manufacturers, with Android ad-view traffic growing at a 32 percent rate over the last year, says AdMob....
