Hey everyone!
I have a weird problem with my Toshiba L40 notebook!
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 yesterday, and I get weird sounds when I start playing music, or some sound starts.
My soundcard is Intel 82801H, lspci says:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
I'm running FC11, attempting to record from vinyl.
At first I heard no sound so I installed gst-mixer and unmuted "aux" and now I can hear the record playing thru the speakers attached to the sound card.
When I attempt to record the sound using audacity I get silence.
openSuse v11.1
linux 2.6.27.39-0.2-default x86_64
realtek acl1200 codec
Sound for various devices is at best erratic. It is hit or miss whether sound emits at any given time.
Sometimes Flash player (in Firefox) has sound, sometimes not.
Hey guys,
I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working.
Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04
I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880".
I'm trying to run Starcraft through Wine. The sound is all distorted, as if it were playing underwater. Then, about 10 minutes into the game the sound is perfect for 1-2 seconds. Then, there's no sound at all.
I have another sound issue which might give a hint. If I'm playing a video on YouTube, and I open vlc to play a movie, the movie will have no sound.
Though it's a shot in the dark, i might have a theory. Did you have sound before this? Do you have a sound server, or are you just using alsa?I ask because if you don't have a mixer (like dmix), a program could gain control of the sound card and, even if music isn't playing, hold control of the card as long as the application is open.

Hi, I just installed ubuntu on my Mac desktop as a dual boot and there is no sound when i boot the ubuntu partition. The volume and sound preferences are set correctly. The sound card is also recognized. Any ideas or help? Thanks!
I've installed a tv card but I can't hear the sound through my built-in CMedia soundcard when I watch tv with TVTime. The tv card's audio output is externally connected to my soundcard's line in input. In the 'Input' tab of the 'Sound Preferences' dialog, I can see the input level meter moving.
