Intel and AMD both announced new high-performance computing (HPC) processors, with Intel unveiling four- to eight-core Xeon 7500 & Nehalem EX& processors and AMD announcing eight- to 12-core Opteron 6000 & Magny-Cours& chips, says eWEEK. Meanwhile, an iSuppli survey says that AMD's semiconductor market share grew 1.6 percent to 12.1 percent in the fourth quarter....

AMD currently announce that the already shipped 8 and 12 cores processor Magny-Cours for OEM and selected manufacturers. Magny-Cours is a server CPU next generation from AMD. This new processor contains 2 cores of Istanbul. Because AMD does not have the original octal-core, the Magny-Cours 8 cores is built based on 2 Istanbul processors.

LinuxDevices: "The Xeon Processor 5600 series also includes the chipmaker's first six-core embedded processors, plus a dual-core processor for "micro servers" that has a TDP of only 30 Watts, the company says."
