Films of books can often help drive sales of those books, and bestsellers often make for movie blockbusters, so it’s no surprise to see online bookseller Amazon today announcing that its content development arm, Amazon Studios, has optioned its first novel, the Amazon-published, Southern horror Seed, to begin making a big-screen adaptation.
Continuing its investment in original content, Amazon today announced it is greenlighting “Zombieland,” a new comedy series based on the Columbia Pictures movie of the same name, which will be made available for free to Amazon Instant Video and LOVEFiLM UK subscribers.
Amazon is pulling a Netflix today, in the sense that it’s now touting the release of its original programming as the “most watched” TV shows on the Amazon Video service since launch on Friday. Netflix previously issued the same statement about its original show, “House of Cards.” But it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, here.
Amazon has for years been selling movies on DVD, and more recently on Blu-ray and by digital delivery. Now the company is getting into the moviemaking business with its new Amazon Studios business.

Looks like we won’t need to wait any longer for the new Kindle Fire since Amazon has “leaked” a teaser promo highlighting the newest addition to the Amazon family. Amazon subtly displays an obvious tablet, one with no sort of identification and no branding.
DC Comics is announcing the next big step in its digital plans today, saying it will sell monthly comics in the Kindle Store, iBookstore, and Nook Book Store.
The company wasn’t exactly missing from those stores before, because it was already selling graphic novels.
