How low will Amazon’s tablets go? We’re now hearing that a $99 Kindle Fire 7″ tablet is in production, and will be shipping this year.
Despite all the rumors of a larger device coming from Amazon, source are now indicating this week’s announcement regarding their Kindle Fire will be limited to two 7-inch models. The information obtained by c|net indicates Amazon will introduce a slightly revamped version of the existing Kindle Fire and a new, higher-end model of the Kindle Fire.
The all-new Amazon Kindles are all now available for pre-ordering from Amazon’s website. The Kindle Paperwhite retails for $119, or $179 for a version with built-in, free 3G connectivity, and those versions ship on Oct. 1.
The larger brother of Amazon’s Kindle Fire series is now here and has reportedly starting to ship. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 offers a 1,920 x 1,200 display at a low starting price of $299. As for a 4G LTE version, you can expect that to start shipping next week starting November the 20th.
I have an original Kindle Fire that amazon was nice enough to replace with a same model due to an issue with the screen. This will arrive tomorrow.
I know that when I receive the new Kindle Fire I can simply log in with the same account and all apps from the Amazon App store will be available for download to the new Kindle Fire.
My question is what about the app settings?
Take that, Rakuten! Amazon continues to extend its reach into new markets and increase its focus in Asia: today it announced pre-orders for its first Japanese-language Kindle, the Paperwhite, and, in another first, it has now extended its Kindle Store into Japan, opening with 50,000 titles in the library.

This is hardly a surprise, but DealNews is reporting that Amazon’s Kindle Fire will experience a price drop to $169 after the new Kindle Fire 2 launches later this year. Amazon has a history of keeping older kindles around, at lower price points, when newer ones are released.
