Also test the speakers on a different computer, to make sure that they're fully functional. Hi, I am having an issue with the sound output on my thinkpad x60. It only has a headphone jack no speakers. I read the alsa wiki thoroughly and even got the low sound workaround, but it just made things sound distorted no help with the volume.

im not sure if this is supposed to be simple or really complicated or if its possible (really hope so), but i want to be able to send out a command to the terminal from python which i can do like so.

os.system("clear") os.system("amixer get Master")

when running this in terminal the terminal come's up with this.

I have two identical machines with identical hardware.

I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2, 64-bit version, and after some system upheavals I now have no sound. Other indications of what is wrong (redacted to remove redundancies):

I'm using a Lenovo (IBM) Think Pad R51.
