Just got a new (well secondhand) pc and installed 12.04 on it, moved my video card over as well, but despite installing (and uninstalling, then re-installing) my video card, the system does not recognise it, it just says "unknown" and "standard" instead of "Nvidia EN8400GS" and "enhanced" as it did in my previous install.
Using the nvidia 259.49 driver and during installation it says unable to build kernel module

Hi all,
I was able to get my nvidia card working a few days ago using the beta driver I downloaded from Nvidia and installed it the hardway. I did all of the suggested setup by adding nomodeset as a boot option, changing NO_KMS_IN_INITRD to "yes" as well as blacklisting "nouveau.
Suddenly, after installing, boot was failed.

Hi,
I've been trying to get my graphic card working under ubuntu and opensuse but to no avail.
First, i tried through additional drivers, but after installation it keeps saying "this driver is activated but not currently in use". That is 3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards.
Ubuntu 12.10 64bit + GTX 560
I'm aware that there are problems with the current Nvidia card drivers. I got the drivers and ended up seeing nothing but my desktop image when my computer restarted. I managed to remove the update, and I used the "fix" found on the linked page but it didn't work.
Hello guys.
Hopefully someone knows a bit about the nvidia drivers. I am trying to install the drivers on a Lenovo Y580 that has a GTX 660M, running 12.04 64 bit.
Hey guys,

I'm having issues enabling overclocking and getting manual control over the fanspeeds of my Nvidia GTX 570 in Precise.
I've modified my xorg.conf to enable coolbits but the options don't appear in nvidia-settings.
