Xubuntu has both a notification area (system tray) and indicators. I prefer the first one, as it allows me to hide items. Is there any way to force the apps that support both (e.g. tomboy, dropbox etc) to display their icons in the system tray and not their indicators?
I'm not sure if anyone has the same problem. It can be a problem of my own system, as I didn't find any signs of it in Google, that's why I'm not sure if it's worth a bug report.
Preconditions: Pidgin is added into tray whitelist; showing mode "Always" in enabled for tray icon.
Am running 11.2/KDE on dual Athlon 32 bit. On startup the hplip device manager tries to place its icon in the system tray, but this fails with the message "No system tray detected on this system". The system tray is not yet present, but appears moments later.

skype has no more icon in system tray when I close its window. It is still active, as its notifications do appear, but I have no more access to it, cannot make calls, etc. If I close its window and try to call it again, I cannot login because it is already in use. System tray is there but only with sound and printer, and the indicator display does not show it as running.
On new Arch Linux (systemd)/Gnome 3.6 install on Lenovo S12 Intel Atom laptop.
There is no Skype (4.1.0.20) status icon in the gnome Notification Tray.
In Arch Linux (systemd)/XFCE's tray the icon shows up.
The icon does show up in the Message Try (Super + M keys)
Hi. i need to add tray program icons for applications like skype. When i close skype is running on the backround but i need to go to menu to re-open it. Can you recommend me one good and simple please? alltray is good?
