I set up a friend with 12.04 and he forgot his password. I encrypted his home directory and I have written down the encryption passphrase during the first boot. If he changed his password after I wrote down the encryption passphrase during the first boot is this original encryption passphrase of any use?
I just upgraded my F9 system to F10 using they preupgrade method, and though nothing seems to have failed during the upgrade I can't boot my system any longer.
I have a completly encrypted system, and so I need to enter a passphrase at boot. The new F10 system does boot and I do get a Password: prompt but the passphrase is not accepted.
Standard disclaimer: Sorry if this has been answered before but searches have not come up with my specific problem. If there is one, please direct me to that threat.
The problem. After returning home from work the other day my computer screen was sitting on the "passphrase" screen (from a reboot).

I have been using public key authentication on my servers for a while now, but I am experiencing issues on a new 'client' trying to connect to github. I have read many threads to verify that my permissions are set up correctly and have generated a new key for github. The problem I am facing is that ssh is asking for my passphrase even though I did not set a passphrase.
I changed my password, and was unable to log on.
I went into root area, and changed password there.
When logging on, it kicks me back to main screen.
I used ecryptfs-rewrap-passphrase /home/.ecryptfs/$USER/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase,
It asked for old wrapping passphrase, which I assumed was my initial password.
It asked for new wrapping passphrase (twice).
I got an error: Unwrapping passphrase
Hi all,
I lost my bin, boot, etc folders and my home folder is encrypted. I also forgot my passphrase, I tried to recover the passphrase but no luck!
Can anyone tell how to recover my home folder.. Any help is highly appreciated!
I have a server which I set up with its root partition totally encrypted. I urgently need to disable the passphrase dialog at startup because it is not letting the server boot up after an electricity cut, it happened already.
Is there any way to make the system boot automatically into the encrypted system without asking for the passphrase?
I am having an ssh nightmare, I have not idea what I am doing wrong.
