Here's the background:
I have two hard drives, one (SATA) with XP on it and another (EIDE) with an NTFS partition and Ubuntu on an ext2 (I think, or ext3, I can never remember which one's right). I also have an external hard drive (EIDE) that's completely NTFS.
The following quote is the sad, sad story of a thumb drive with the partition table nuked, as told by a friend of mine:
Quote:
Data was recovered from an XP system by booting with a BartPC CD
and copying onto a USB thumb drive. Nothing unusual.
System was rebooted into the XP install CD.
Hello. I have a dell dimension 9100. I have two drives on it, a ~160gb drive that came with it with xp, and a 500gb drive with win7. I put the win7 in myself and had been using that. Finally, I decided to erase the old drive with xp on to install linux on it. After erasing the old drive, my computer won't start up. It says it cant find sata 1 or 3.
So I have a 240GB ssd, a 160GB 7200 hdd, and 2x1TB hdd in a hardware raid 1. I installed windows on the 240GB drive. I want to install ubuntu 11.10 on the 160GB drive.
I downloaded the 11.10 alternate iso. The installer recognizes that I have raid configurationm and asks if I'd like to active the raid.
Hi there,
If I had a small solid state drive (32 gigs or so) along with a much larger SATA drive, with Ubuntu installed on th SSD and /home on the SATA drive, would there be a significant speed increase? Will the time it takes to move data between the two hard drives cancel out any speed increase from the SSD? Thanks.
I have installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS with 3 partition [ '/' drive for 100 GB, '/Home' for 200 GB and '/swap' drive for 8 GB] . but after successful installation i m not able to see '/home' drive .
I can see only '/' drive..I want to keep my data's in '/home' drive [as like D drive in windows] .
please help me on this.
I am new user of Ubuntu and have just installed server 12.04 for use in the school that I am running in Honduras. I have a second hard drive installed for use by the school and teachers. I want to use this second hard drive for file storage. When I type in lshw I can see the drive; logical name: /dev/sdb. The hard drive is formated to NTFS.
I am currently running F12 beta on a laptop w/ a 40gig drive. I have ordered a 160gig drive as a replacement.
My partitioning is as follows
/boot - 200Mb ext4
swap - 1024Mb
/ - rest of drive ext4
I was working with XP Pro os and it chrashed. Moved to ubuntu 11.04 and moved the XP Pro hard drive to the ubuntu system. HD worked just fine. This HD was a boot drive for XP Pro.
Purchased Win 7 system moved the XP Pro hard drive to the Win 7 however, win 7 does not reconized the format on the hard drive and wants to reformat.
