I was tring to run anacron as non root. But my RHEL doens't have -S option on anacron.
Since the the default spool directory for anacron is /var/spool/anacron, does it mean as a non root user, I can't run anacron since I don't have write permissions to it?
How can I check when was the last time anacron completed all the daily/weekly/monthly jobs? I understand that the timestamps at /var/spool/anacron are the times anacron started, but it can be that the system was restarted or shutdown between start and completion.
Is it possible to check the status and timestamp of completion of every anacron job seperately?
I wrote a script to change my desktop background. I want this script to run on anacron because I often turn my computer off at night.
MATE, the open-source desktop environment whose name no one is sure how to pronounce, is now nearly a year old. Many of us never thought it would make it this far, but the interface has held own against competitors like Unity and GNOME Shell. But does MATE have a long-term future in the fast-evolving world of desktop Linux?
Unity is the default desktop environment in Ubuntu 12.10. Although, it has improved a lot but if you’re still looking for an alternative desktop with classic GNOME 2 style layout then you may try MATE.
MATE is also a GNOME 3 based desktop (just like unity), it’s easy to use, and the it’s stable too.
Ubuntu GNOME Is Now An Official Ubuntu Flavor
The Ubuntu Tech Board approved last week that Ubuntu GNOME is now an official flavor/derivative of Ubuntu Linux.
As some non-Mir news, Tim Lunn of the Ubuntu GNOME project wrote into Phoronix that the OS spin is now an official Ubuntu flavor.
Bear with me, some explanation & background required ... Thanks!
Starting with Ubuntu 9.04 I really fell for Linux and made it my full time permanent OS after nearly 20 years with Windoze. Like many others here I've tried numerous distributions extensively ... Debian, Suse, Fedora, Mint, and so on.

MATE is a fork of Gnome 2.It provides an intuitive and attractive desktop to Linux users using traditional metaphors.
The name “MATE” comes from yerba maté, a species of holly native to subtropical South America.
Good news for those who like to use Gnome Shell on Ubuntu. Starting with Ubuntu 12.10, there will be separate Ubuntu 12.10 build based on vanilla Gnome Shell. The desktop interface will provide out of the box upstream Gnome 3 experience.
This Gnome Shell based Ubuntu Flavor is unnamed yet.
