http://ubuntuforums.org – how does one resize the boot partition to install win 8? i have a 30 gb boot ntfs. all other partitions are fat32 on my 750 gb hdd. so not having partition magic in win xp...i went to gparted in linu and reduced the size of some of the fat 32 partitions ...and now i have some unallocated space which i would like to add to the c:\ drive such that it increases in size and allows me to install win 8. but right now. in gparted. it only allows me to reduce the size of the 30 gb boot ntfs partition...not increase it. help! Before I started this, I went into Windows 8 and reduced it's size to allow roughly 10GB of unallocated data. I want to increase Ubuntu 12.10's partition to fill that void.

I ran Ubuntu (Trial) from my CD as told to in multiple tutorials and ran GParted.

I've got an external disk with 6 partitions: 4 for linux, one storage in HFS+, and one storage in ext4. I'd like to delete the ext4 storage one and move it's resulting unallocated space into my HFS+ one, but in GParted, I delete the ext4, and it becomes unallocated. But when I try to resize my HFS+, I can't enter a new value for "New size (MiB)", and the up arrow for it's size is disabled.

I have the following configuration: sda1 1 GB maybe fat32 (windows recovery partition) sda2 40 GB ntfs(windows drive c) with boot flag sda3 around 100GB ntfs(storage partition) sda4 extended partition:sda5 10 GB ext4 partition sda6 1 GB linux swap I want to make this changes: sda2 30 GB resize(decrease size with 10 GB) sda3 around 100GB(move and maybe decrease size with 4-5 GB)

I have 250Gb drive on a laptop, which has Windows 7 on a 122Gb ntfs partition (which has a "boot" flag on it) and Ubuntu 12.04.1 on a 110Gb extended partition, of which the root ext4 partition is 108Gb and the swap is 1.74Gb. You can see everything in the screenshot below.

I'm trying to set up a dual boot Lenovo Ideapad that came with Windows 7.

Lenovo uses up 4 partitions out of the box. They are:

(unnamed) 14GB

LENOVO D: 30GB

SYSTEM_DRV 200MB

Window7_OS C: 400GB

I have no idea what the first 3 do.

I had installed Lubuntu on a PC with Windows XP and used dual boot for some time with no problems.

Since I had almost abandoned Windows (kept it for printing...) I decided to resize its ntfs partition and add the free space to my Ubuntu space.

Hey guys, I want to install Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 OS.

I am trying to resize my /dev/sda1 as shown in the diagram using the gparted Live cd.However although I have unallocated space I am unable to expand it.I have tried expanding /dev/sda2(which works) and then decreasing its size from the beginning(which doesnt). But that doesnt work either. Could someone please tell ,me how to resize my /dev/sda1 partition.

We have recently upgraded a system HDD - it was 160GB, now 2TB. We upgraded as we were running low on space, mainly on /usr, and also on /home.

I prepared the new drive with a Live CD and GParted (and made some partitions larger). Then I cloned /, /usr, and /boot to the new drive using dd. The partition size of /usr on the old drive was 23GB, but I made it ~50GB on the new larger drive.
