[all variants] Identify running processes

Hi All,

i want to check all the child processes attached to a specific process. Say for a example; my process is a java process. then i wanna know what are the processes attached to that java process.

at the moment i use the command # ps aux|grep java ; this gives the details about the currently running java process.

Hi, how do you identify if a java process is running in Unix? So for example if I have 8 JVM's running but I want to make sure one of them has definately stopped?

Is there a way to start my Java process that I can easily identify it, from another program that runs a ps in the system?

I am maintaining an application that currently consists of 4 processes that are dependant on each other in various ways.

I am developing an application which displays the running processes in linux and if any of the process is not running start that process. All the actions should be performed by firing linux commands. Also create a log text file and insert the log in the processlog table in database.

Java code sample preferred. Urgent please.

I used the init.d skeleton template to create an init.d script that starts up a basic java process. When I run my init.d script, the process starts up and works fine. The only problem is that the process doesn't produce the required log files while it's running.

Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to pause a process I'm running in the background, close my laptop (I need to leave the office), and continue the process (when I get home).

I've been running a process for a really long time and I don't want to have to start it over.

Let's say I am asked to check and shut down the processes that I am not familiar with. So when I ls under bin folder, I see multiple process .sh.
