[all variants] Is i915 the latest driver?

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, I am not new to Linux at all, but I cant figure out if I am running the correct driver for my video card. This is the relevant line from lspci: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) I am running on Lenovo x200s, which is using the Intel x4500HD (or similar named) IGC. BUT, in lsmod I can see that I am using a driver called "i915", - this is the reason I opened this thread, it sounds old to me =q Should I be seeing different driver name than "i915" ?? I have posted in here previously but it was regarding using Debian. I just reformatted my HDD and install Ubuntu 9.1.

Recently, I have replaced my old motherboard Giga G41M + Pentium 5500 CPU with the new Giga B75M + Celeron G540 CPU.

The old motherboard has an on-board GPU, Intel GMA X4500.

The new motherboard has no on-board GPU, but the new CPU has an on-die GPU, Intel HD Graphics.

I'm running Debian testing, without reinstall after upgraded the hardware.

My laptop fan seems to be running a lot more now that I have Ubuntu installed - is this normal ?

its not overheating is it?

Why does it do this, before in windows it wasn't like this!

I have a similar problem in that the Intel 915 driver is improperly suggested by X [The chip seems not to be supported by the '915 driver, even though it is from Intel]. I have filed a bug up... [by herrold]

i have the i910gm chipset(correct me if i'm wrong) i have the driver from here and i can't seem to install it... or find out how... help please?

Hello. I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with an Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller. The kernel driver in use is i915, however, in another distribution of Linux, two kernel modules are loaded: i915 and intelfb. I would like to know how to load module intelfb in openSUSE 11.3 as it seems to significantly improve my video card's responsiveness.

Just brought a Lenovo Thinkpad X200, and did a fresh install of Karmic. Everything works fine, except the wireless card isn't being recognised. There's a thread associated with the thinkpad but it doesn't seem to make sense.
