I have an hp pavilion dv5 series laptop, with ati hd 3450 graphics, 512m dedicated memory.
I have a problem with my sound card, that it won't play sound through it's own speakers. So i figured I need to install a new kernel, which I did.
I just got Asus wireless dongle usb-N13 and I can't get it to reach the Internet. It can see the network, but is unable to authenticate and reach the Internet.
So I tried installing the latest catalyst and had problems as it would not DKMS with /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/9.012/build/firegl_public.c and found 2 patches which fixed the problem.
I installed the header and image packages for kernel 2.6.38-13-generic under Ubuntu 10.04, but now the Nvidia and Broadcom drivers keep crashing when I attempt to install them.
I tried running sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source but get the error:

I was updated my Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS kernel to version 3.5.0-18-generic so I need to recompile my broadcom-sta to work with the new kernel
I was run
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure broadcom-sta-dkms

Same thing happened to me but with catalyst-dkms. I had installed catalyst 12.9 and xorg 1.13 previously and all was working fine. I just now upgraded the kernel, rebooted and couldn't get in X. I had to reinstall catalyst-dkms to get it to work (I actually removed catalyst-dkms, catalyst-utils, and lib32-catalyst-utils before reinstalling but probably wasn't neceisary)
