I am setting up Lion server so users on an Active Directory network can access webdav folders from iPads.
I have got this working fine when accessing a shared multi user folder.
I want users to also be able to access their own personal folders, with no one else being able to access the folder.
I can share the Users folder out to Active Directory groups but this will give each user access to oth

Hi
10.04 64bit, NFS Server, NFS Client - no samba and not wanted
I am using NFS to share across my network. One thing I can't solve is this, for example:
I share my /home folder.
This folder contains links to places outside /home, specifically drives mounted in /mnt.
How can I share /home but specify folders I do not want shared within /home?
I am kind of new to networking and I am trying to resolve the following situation. I tried to find a solution but I couldn't find anything proper that suits my needs.
I have tried two ways for sharing a folder on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit so that I could access it on a Windows XP PC on the same switch:
1st: right-clicking the folder > properties > share > Share this folder and checking both "Allow others to create and delete files in this folder" and "Guest access (for people without a user account)"
2nd: adding the folder to Samba
Forgive me if this has been repeated, I searched all over and couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know Linux best practices when it comes to network shares, specifically the shared folder path? For the most part I have been sharing out of my home directory, but that doesn't seem right. Should I make a /shares folder?
I have a Ubuntu 12.10 machine connected to a windows network where I can access a publicly shared folder. I can see most files and folders but, in what seems like a random selection, some are hidden. If I use the terminal to open nautilus directly to a folder I know exists it opens it without problem but the parent folder still doesn't show that folder. Can anyone help?
So, in my home directory I have replaced the Documents, Music etc folders with links to the equivalent directories on my Windows partition, cause I dual boot and had Windows first so all my music etc is on that partition. This just works just fine on the machine Ubuntu is installed on.
Ok, I'm going more than a little nuts here...
Here's what's happening. I have one PC (morpheus) on which I've chosen to share a couple of folders in the home directory. The folders show the "Shared" icon in them and are chmod 777'd. I can access them by going to Dolphin -> Network -> Samba Shares -> Workgroup -> Morpheus -> Foldername ...
