Question: Can I create an encrypted directory with ecryptfs that exists outside of my home directory, which uses the same decryption credentials that my encrypted home directory uses?
Here's the situation:
Code:
/dev/sda1 (SSD): /
/dev/sdb1 (HDD): /home
/dev/sdb2 (HDD): /var and /tmp
The above works fine, but I have 80GB free on /dev/sda1 that I'd like accessible from my home directory
(Reposting this here since I posted in the general forum with no luck.)
I encrypted my system drive using the whole disk encryption option on the 11.10 alternate install CD. I would now like to add a second drive, and have the system treat this drive space as part of the /home directory. I have seen guides on mapping the new drive to its own directory, but this is not what I want to do.
So I have an encrypted home directory, set up during install on a server running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I attempted to use screen in order to run a script that accesses the data in my home directory after closing my ssh connection to this server, but ran into errors seemingly stemming from disk access.
been looking all over and can't seem to find an answer for this...
i recently re-installed ubuntu and enabled an encrypted home directory upon installation.
I have "successfully" moved my encrypted home to a separate partition using the instructions here:
How can i move an encrypted home directory to another partition?
However, some files are not being copied over. Most notably, I have a directory in my old home that contains the themes I use.
#1 I'm very new to the ubuntu home directory encryption or rather ecryptfs
folder encryption. I read about the same within Dustin's blog & tried
implementing it.

Currently I'm using EncFS to encrypt my directory "confidential" to ".encconfidential" and sync that encrypted directory using an online service (e.g. Dropbox, UbuntuOne etc). However my entire disk is already LUKS encrypted, so the double encryption takes a toll on performance.
I wonder is there an "inverted" EncFS option?
When you install Linux Mint, it asks you if you would like to encrypt you home directory (I think that's what it asks, its been a while.) I would like to know what effects this has on performance. Particularly with regards to my system. I have an Intel 4 core hyper-threaded processor, solid state drive and 20GB of ram.
