http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi there. It's more a hardware problem than an Ubuntu problem, I think, but maybe there is a workaround. I'm using a HP DV7-1145ef laptop with a HDMI output. I'm also using an external display (HP 2275W) with a DVI input. Both are linked with a HDMI/DVI cable. I configured X and the dual screen works fine. But, it's working only under X. If I switch to a console tty the external screen goes to sleep mode (not the same as if I unplug it). It seems it gets no signal from the laptop. Also, the external screen stays blank during the booting process. It only gets a signal when GDM is fired up. Maybe that's normal (it's my first external screen plugged on a laptop). Maybe it's due the HDMI interface. Is there a way to configure something so I can see the boot process (because most of the time I let the laptop closed with papers on it :p). Best regards. I've been using my Zenbook's HDMI port for watching movies on my TV a bit. Everything worked fine, until I wanted to turn off my screen whenever the HDMI cable was plugged in.

I did this in the settings under Screens menu.

So, I start Ubuntu on my laptop, then I plug in my external monitor and I go to preferences and click on display to change the screen from laptop io the external one, just as I click on display, the laptop screen goes dark, only I see the mouse pointer, and nothing on the external screen. If I turn on the computer with the external display plugged in, everything works fine.

I just downloaded linux and instaled it. Ok so far, i rebooted and selected Ubuntu, a loading screen comes with ubuntu and a purple background, but the screen trembles a little. After the the loading ends my external screen blacks out and says No signal found 3.2khz 4.7hz.

I'm currently using an external screen with my laptop at home connected with a serial port. When I'm in X, my laptop display is automatically disabled, when the external screen is connected. Is there a way to do this also at boot time? Where do I have to configure this? Also I'd like to have my login shells on my external screen, when switching to them out of X.

I'm running openSuse 11.3 x64 on my Lenovo y550p laptop. I have built in laptop display, some external display connected with d-sub and TV connected with HDMI via sound receiver. And I can't make my system works with all these monitors together. I need HDMI connected all time because I prefer to use my receiver instead of laptop speakers for audio output.
