Hi all,
I'm setting up a backup server (yes, I know raid isn't a backup).
I purchased 4 3TB drives, and I was thinking, is there any point to the performance boost Raid 10 gives over Raid 6? All the accesses will be remote, so even with Gigabit ethernet, I'll max out at 125 MB/s (theoretical).
I am not really a sys admin, I am mainly a developer with some unix knowledge, and because we don;t have any competent sysadmin , I have been delegated the task to implement the backup strategy.
We have many web servers, some are running Mysql Srevers, other apache, another one is running nginx, and we are using SVN as a versioning system.
We were looking forward to implement a backup strategy,
Hi everyone.
I recently setup a Ubuntu 12.04 LAMP Server at home that I use to develop websites in corporation with clients. I've been using Ubuntu and other Linux distros for a few years, but I am new to servers and have been learning a lot.
I have to setup a backup strategy for a small Windows-only network, with no dedicated backup server.
The criteria for the backup strategy are as follows:
I have a CentOS server running with backup made to an external HDD.
I run a full backup everyday at 4am and incremental backups every 2 hour.
hi,
I wanted to setup a server wherein it will automatically backup my "shared folders" from my other PCs (i.e. Windows 7 and XP) once I log onto to the server... Is it possible? Can I configure RSYNC to do it? if no what should I use?
I'm doing this so I would not have to backup my wife and kids laptops and PCs every now and then.
I am redesigning my home network setup (specifically my nas and server), and recently asked a question about running a lamp server and freenas 8 on two separate machines.
However, in the spirit of conserving money and electricity, i am thinking of combining the two machines using virtualbox.
We are looking at getting a new server, and we are thinking about getting 4 drives in a Raid 1+0 array (mirrored and striped).
However, we cannot get more than 4 drives, so we can't get a 5th drive as an "onsite" backup.
I have installed FreeNAS on a test server, with 3x 1Tb drives. They are setup in raidz. I tried to offline one of the disks (from the FreeNAS web-ui), and the array became degraded, as I think it should.
The problem is with the array becoming unaccessible after that. I thought a raid like that should be able to run fine with one of the disks missing.
