Dual boot system, Win XP and Ubuntu 11 with Grub, working fine.
Update from 11.10 to 12.04 runs smooth, at end I reboot.
At boot, Grub menu won't appear, I get:
error: out of partition
grub rescue>
Tried the boot-repair disk.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my computer without problems, but after rebooting i got the following error:
Error: No such partition
grub rescue>
I am a novice with ubuntu and any detailed instructions to the problem will be highly appreciated.
I ran boot repair as per the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair

Hello! I have been reading for over two hours how to get fedora to show up boot menu.
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1277445/ Here is my paste from boot-repair.
SDA is ssd (120g) and SDB is hdd (500g) which i have been formatted badly. If anyone could help me to get fedora showing on boot menu with windows and ubuntu, it would be great
And if someone can tell me how i can rename those partitions.
I try install ubuntu in my Acer Aspire 5750g. since ubuntu can't be installed at the first time, so I set the boot option as acpi=off as other people said, which it did work. after I finished installation and restart my computer, I enter grub menu and start the ubuntu, however the computer become black screen. I tried several time but I still couldn't get over this problem.
I recently installed Windows 8 onto a partition that had previously housed XP, and burned a 64-bit version of secure remix and ran boot-repair. I can now see and boot into my Ubuntu desktop, but the Windows 8 installation does not even appear on the grub menu.

Hi all new to Linux and having a dabble. My problem is this I have a multi boot machine Windows 8,7 and XP all on different drives and have installed Ubuntu 13.04 which caused my machine not to boot it just went to the grub rescue command.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with Windows 7 (Wubi installation)
I encounter booting problem to Ubuntu many times (after choosing to boot to Ubuntu, it appears black screen).
I try to repair by boot-repair. It worked sometimes.
I have no idea how to fix it (is it about my hdd?)

My computer has (had) a dual boot of Ubuntu Precise and Windows 7. Recently, when I started the computer, grub gave me an error saying "Unknown filesystem", and sent me to grub rescue. I searched for solutions to this, and found this answer: Unknown filesystem error: grub rescue.
I have been using 12.04 for a few months, used the windows installer and installed inside of windows, only have a 250 gig hard drive about half full,so I didnt want another partitional has been well until last night. Now it wont boot. as the splash screen loads I get a white box with lines of want look like zeroes, and in the box is the word OK.
