I recently installed Solaris 10 as a VM. I was using the JDS and shut down the vm when I left the office. When I rebooted today I login in at the desktop login screen and press ok but I am reverted to the console screen for a spilt second and then back to the login screen. I log in as root and my password is correct because I am not met with an incorrect login error.
I have the same issue as others (see Login returns to login screen [closed]).
When I arrived at the login screen, I enter my password, the screen goes black for one second, displaying some text, and then it returns me to a fresh login screen.
I can go to a console alt+f1 and login into my account on the command line.
It is a fairly fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, plenty of room left on th
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 which was working fine till today.
If I try to login using one of my user accounts it directs me back to the login screen, which is followed by a black screen.
I am sure the password I enter is correct because if the password is wrong it prompts "Invalid Password".
On the other hand I am able to login using a root or guest account.
I am trying to install lubuntu 12.1 PPC using the alt cd on an ibook g4. I've been having a few problems. First, when lubuntu boots it only boots to a black screen, my cursor is visible and brightness functions work but that's it, no login screen ever comes up. I tried logging in after pressing ctrl+alt+f1 but my login didn't work.
I just did a clean install of 11.3 over my dual boot xp/11.2 system and kept my home directory. When I booted the system a console box came up. I then disabled auto login and rebooted. The login screen showed two users, 1- Tom and 2- Root. When I login as Tom the console comes up and when I boot into Root the GUI KDE system comes up.
I am unable to get past the login screen. It won't accept passwords, the screen momentarily goes black, and then returns to the login screen.
I recently found out that you can use CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch from the login screen to the command line. My password works in that situation and I was able to enter terminal mode.
I typed in "startx" to see what would happen.
When I login to ubuntu, it shows a black screen, and takes me back to the login screen. the password is right, and there is no error message showing up. I am running 12.04 LTS.
i renamed the user's home folder, so that may have done it. i am getting an error in the terminal saying that "no...
I'm having a weird issue. When I put my password using my account (ramiz) on the login screen of GUI, a blink of screen and it take me back to the login screen. I tried with Guest user and it is logging me in. I also tried Ctrl+ATL+F1 to switch to command mode and try to login there with sudo -s.
i845g 43 weeks 2 hours ago Hi,
I have a problem logging back in to an X session. Only the very first (after bootup) login screen is diplayed. When I log in and later loggout the X login screen never comes back on. The screen stays blank/black.
Technicaly I can "blindly" login to an X session again because the machine normaly runs, but I cannot see the X login screen.
