I have been using Ubuntu since Ubuntu 11.10 came out. I was very satisfied with how Ubuntu has evolved over the past few years, but now I would like to try out Fedora 17 since that has been out for a while simply for a change.
I loaded Ubuntu 11.10 from an install CD (purchased CDs) and when the system tries to boot up I get a long delay with a flashing cursor followed by the "Loading Operating System ..." statement that never loads my operating system.
I am using a GA880GA-UD3H Motherboard with a Phenom II X6 1055T processor, 16 GB (active) RAM, a Hitachi 4TB Deskstar HDD and (2) LG Blu-ray Disc Rewrite BD drives.
i just installed ubuntu 12.10 alongside windows 7 but now my computer automatically boots to ubuntu. i want windows 7 as my default operating system. when i start up my laptop it shows me no settings or any screen asking me what operating system to use.
I'm trying to boot Xubuntu from USB Flash Drive on my old laptop Fujitsu-Siemens but it shows "Missing Operating system. Operating System not found". Although the Flash Drive works on my current laptop.
Can I make DOS USB Flash Drive with (x)Ubuntu Live CD on it?
I tried various windows programs to make a bootable USB, and Xubuntu Startup-disk without success.
Could someone please help?
I used to have Ubuntu 10.xx (don't remember exact version) as my main operating system, and then later, I decided to install Windows 8 CP to try it out.
I didn't get rid of Ubuntu, it's still on a partition.
The problem is, after installing Windows 8 CP, it set itself up so it'd install as my main operating system and not boot into my grub anymore.
My laptop developed a bad sectors and not working well. It was with ubutuntu 12.04 LTS operating system. Now, I want to install ubuntu in an relatively old desktop with the following specifications
Hp compaq dx 2390
Intel ® Pentium Dual Core CPU, E2180 @ 2.00 GHZ, 1.20 GHz, 1 GB Ram, 160 GB Hard Drive
Which k/x/ubuntu version is suitable to this desktop?
PS.
I am new to Ubuntu and just decided to install it in (on my new lenovo thinkpad) in addition to my windows 7 operating system. Now, whenever I reboot the computer, it only runs window 7. I went (in windows) to Control Pannel -> System -> Advanced Settings -> Startup and Ubuntu is not even listed as a choice for operating system.
I use multi-boot (dual-boot) to install more than one copy of Ubuntu onto a drive. This serves different purposes with respect to managing changes to the base operating system. Since both instances of the operating system are used to process the same data I have created additional partitions just for that purpose.
Hi,
I installed ubuntu 12.04 along with Windows 8 as dual boot system on Sony Vaio F11 laptop.
When I run Flash video (youtube, espn3) ubuntu seems freezing the whole system..I happened to do cold reboot few times which allows me to get back to ubutu...Then later I was reading about Magic Recovery Key ( Alt+PrntScreen+R+E+I+S+U+B) and tried when it frozen again..
