Hi
I have just installed xubuntu on my laptop and I am unable to adjust the brightness of the screen....at the moment it is very bright!!!
The laptop is an Acer 5755G core i7 nvidia gt540m
The function keys (FN+arrows) bring up the image of the sun and the slider moves, but the screen brightness doesn't actually change.
I have a Samsung Series 5 NP530U3C laptop with an Intel HD 4000 graphics card. I've found that I can't control the screen brightness with either the GUI tools (e.g. KDE's Power Management or the equivalent in Unity) or the function keys on the keyboard.
However I can control the brightness by writing directly to the files in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0.
Is it possible to remap the volume controls so I can use them as BACK and HOME??
I am currently using GMD gesture control as I like to use apps in full screen mode but it would be alot handier for me to use the buttons as i generally use the N7 in portrait mode.
I have tried ButtonRemapper but for me it doesn't work.
Thanks in advance for any help :)
Hi all,
So i've recently installed Kubuntu 13.04 on my Vivobook V300 and i've just noticed a strange bug with my keyboard brightness FN keys. If I use the Brightness Down button it works as expected, however if I use the Brightness Up key it seems to scroll through 3 different brightness levels before returning to the first and repeating the process.
Hello everybody,I have a Vaio S13 laptop with a Nvidia 310M graphics card. For some time now I have been having a recurring problem with the brightness controls.
I have a Sony E series laptop (64 bit) where keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 should control the screen brightness. On my machine these keys do control the brightness "slider", but they do not control the actual screen brightness. I am running Ubuntu 12.10.
I installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a Sony vpc cw18gf.
I can not decrease or increase brightness and my Fn key does not work.
My brightness and lock settings are as in this image:
I tried both pages below but my problem is not solved.

page 2: Ubuntu 12.04 - Brightness controls not working [duplicate]
I am currently using an Acer 5742 which has various problems with brightness control.
Using "acpi_backlight=vendor" in the grub line does give me back full control via the brightness keys and it does automatically dim on inactivity but the problem is the brightness is set to full all the time unless I manually alter it.
Is there any way to get it to dim when on battery in unity?
Hi,
I have an ADVENT 8117 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04
The problem is, if i use the fn + F5 and F6 to turn volume up and down, the volume either goes max or mute, and the notification bar seems to jump and flash until the laptop is restarted.
When this happens, i also cannot use any applet icons eg; sound, network. It also stops me from using the applications menu.
