http://techcrunch.com – Today, Acer officially unveiled the U.S. and Canadian availability, pricing and full spec list of its Iconia W700 Windows 8 tablet, which comes in three variants ranging in price from $799 ($749 in Canada) to $999, depending on hardware configuration. The tablets will ship on October 26, the same day Windows 8 is scheduled for its public release, which should provide us with an early look at how third-party offerings will perform in a market that’s yet to really be proven. Not to be outdone by Google and Asus, Acer has now officially joined the 7-inch tablet party by releasing the Iconia A110 in the UK. Boasting specs very similar to that of the Nexus 7, it seems like Acer’s offering may hold its own in the hot 7-inch tablet market.

It is true that Acer only a few months ago brought us one of the first round of Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets In the Iconia Tab A500, a 10-inch tablet with a thin metal backing attached to one of the cheapest prices on the market. What we’ve got now is only the second 7-inch tablet on the market and the first one to carry any version of Honeycomb.

Acer has just unveiled the Iconia Tab A110, a 7-inch Android-powered tablet that will serve as a direct competitor to Google’s Nexus 7. The device sports the same quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor as the Nexus 7, though Acer has gone a bit further and added additional features like a MicroSD slot and MicroHDMI port. The best part?

This holiday season may well belong to the affordable, small tablet, and Acer doesn’t intend to be left behind in the dust of Amazon and Apple.

With the Nexus 7 enjoying tremendous success, Acer is looking to crash the party with a 7-inch tab of their own. The Iconia Tab 110 is already available in the UK, but will finally makes its way to the U.S. and Canada on October 30 for $229.  This one will compete directly with the Nexus 7 and it has its pluses and minus.

 

We first spotted Acer’s affordable 7-inch Iconia B1 tablet last month, where it was rumored the device would launch globally at a staggering $99 price point. Well, new information has leaked out today suggesting the device would in fact launch as the Iconia B this month.

Microsoft’s Surface tablet strategy continues to stir concern within the halls of Acer. But instead of worrying about Steve Ballmer’s Windows 8 and Windows RT hardware plans, is it time for Acer to focus on its own Iconia Tab innovation strategy? The VAR Guy sure thinks so.

Hope you weren’t waiting for an Acer Windows RT tablet. The company is not releasing its offering until later next year.
