My Toshiba C800 laptop (12.04lts desktop) has special function keys as follows:
fn+
F2-BRIGHTNESS DOWN
F3-BRIGHTNESS UP
F4-DISPLAY SELECT
F5-TOUCH PAD on/off
F6-PREVIOUS
F7-PLAY/PAUSE
F8-NEXT
F9-VOLUME DOWN
F10-VOLUME
F11-MUTE
F12-WiFi on/off
F6 to F11 (media player keys) work correctly, but the keys from F2 to F5 and F12 are not working.
Why would some function keys work, but not others?
My laptop's media keys (volume up/down/mute) are detected via xev and showkey. I can go into System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts and set the volume controls with the media keys. However when I try to use the keys they do not function properly.
I tried setting the keys and rebooting the system but that hasn't worked. Any ideas?

So basically I have an Acer laptop (5737Z) and my dog took a short walk through my keys. After that my numpad keys stopped working. When the numpad is off they function as arrow keys and some other functions and when numlock on they are numeric keys.
Now they work only in a vt

I don't think that this is just a Gnome issues, but I'm not sure.
I have Japanese Sony VAIO VPCCB series laptop. I'm dual booting Windows 7 and UbuntuGnome.
My problem is using the Fn key with the Function keys to use the multimedia features.
Is there any way to get this working in Chakra? I have tried wine but it only installs the software and not the drivers. I'm just wondering if any of you have any insight on getting this to function under Chakra so that I don't have to crawl back to Windows... Thanks in advance
Hi, my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T500) has a number pad overlayed on the right hand keys which are suppposed to work when the function key is pressed (I think anyway, because they are the same color as the function key).
But with Ubuntu this Fn number pad doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to get it working?
I have a Dell L7102X which has been enabled for UEFI via Custom BIOS and I have Windows 8 Pro x64 and Ubuntu 12.10 x64 successfully dual booting on GPT.
I have named my device under Ubuntu with the same visible name under Windows.
I have troubles with two of my keyboard's (PS/2) keys, those are right arrow and "]" (might be more, haven't been able to test the function keys). I've tried the keys in BIOS and they work well, so I doubt it's something hardware related. What I've also tried is to uninstall the driver and install it again, however that doesn't work, still the same problem.
