I have installed the 64 bit version of 11.2 and now cannot access external hard drives or flash drives.
When I plug in a flash drive, the recently mounted devices icon recognizes it, but when I try to access it in Dolphin I get an error that says unknown file system vfat.
My laptop hard disk got crashed. But until I replace I want to do my home works. So I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on 16GB Kingston DT101 G2 pen drive.
My question is, using my pen drive as my regular disk for 1 or 2 weeks is that OK ? Will I get any problems in my pen drive? After I replace my hard disk can I use that pen drive as normal ( just assume I will use my laptop at least 12 hours per day).
I have a WD My password essential external hard drive. In Windows xp, vistan and 7 I can use it fine, however, my Ubuntu (9.10) can not save to it. I keep getting the message "error while copying to WD Smartware, destination is read only". I have tried formating to NTFS, Fat 32, using G-parted (which sees all partitions on my machine expect this external hard drive).
Hello,
Here's the background:
I have two hard drives, one (SATA) with XP on it and another (EIDE) with an NTFS partition and Ubuntu on an ext2 (I think, or ext3, I can never remember which one's right). I also have an external hard drive (EIDE) that's completely NTFS.
I had this drive [a Samsung S2 1.0TB] working well in Ubuntu 11.04 and after installing 11.10 it was still fine for the first week until I got my other flash drive to format.
After formatting it through Disk Utility I was comparing the status of both the flash drive and the Samsung 1TB that was being displayed on the screen of Disk Utility. Both devices were mounted and working properly.
I have Ubuntu 12.04LTS as my current operating system, and I have a Windows 7 iso on a disk. I'm using an external hard drive because my internal hard drive has become damaged. I need to get Windows to install onto my external hard drive (where Ubuntu is as well). The iso disk will not install windows to the hard drive.
For a few weeks now my Ubuntu 12.04 system has been locking up. The hard drive seemed to keep locking up and going into read-only mode. I have to reboot in order to keep working on it.
So, I decided to just clone the hard drive and see if I can recover it.
When I do a regular copy of all files from the drive to another, it gets to about 110 megs in and gives me an input/output error.
I have a 320gb USB hard drive, one partition for my files, one for playing Wii games, and one which I would like to use for an Ubuntu instillation.
To do this, I partitioned my disk accordingly using Windows, then booted from the Ubuntu CD to install the OS to my external hard drive partition.
