Two 3 TB drives replaced two 500 gig drives the first thing I did was transfer all my steam games to one drive so now I have 40+ steam games backed up which would be a pain to download al 260+ gigs over.
If I ever upgrade my SSD drives two 250 gig drives they need to come down to like 300.00 for a 1.5 TB or something =)
I noticed the drives are ALOT heavier then the one platter drives they a
I've been using 3GB/s RE4 drives in RAID 1 and have been happy so far. But I've recently learned of the WD AV drives designed for always on streaming. The RE4's have 64MB caches while the AV drives have a 32MB cache. The 3Ware 9550SXU controllers have their own cache.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. My hard drives usually comes as: sda, with 'sudo blkid' and if I plug-in any USB drive, they comes as: sdb, sdc etc; after sda. That's fine!!!
But problem arises after I restart my laptop with connecting those USB drives. They alter and comes first and hard drive goes to the end, like: 'sudo blkid' shows, sda, sdb for USB drives and sdc for hard drives.
Right now I am running windows 7 64 bit on my main pc/server with 5x3TB drives, 6x2TB drives, a 240GB SSD for booting, 2x1.5TB esata drives and 2x2TB usb3 drives. System has 24GB ddr3, a 3570k running at 4.4, and an XFX DD 7950. Currently I have about 17TB of stuff on the drives now that I cleaned out about 5TB of duplicate and unneeded files.
My current storage situation is something like this: I have five external drives of various capacities that I would like to migrate to a NAS setup. I've acquired the parts for a homebuild NAS setup. What I can't figure out is...
I'm not sure when this happened, but at some point my server running Lubuntu 14.04 stopped seeing more than 4 hard drives. Each drive shows up if I swap cables around, but it won't see more drives than /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc and /dev/sdd. There are 4 SATA II drives and one USB drive that are connected, but only the USB drive and 3 of the SATA drives.
