I had faced this problem only after 2 months of using 11.10 also and now from the begining in 12.04.
The log in sound that is supposed to play dusing login and also during logout never does!!
i checked the contents of
/usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo
and i can see the desktop-login.ogg and desktop-logout.ogg
Can anyone help as to why i cannot make them play??
Thankyou.. :)
Following a troubleshooting post I've found out that my driver is recognized in fact but is not listed at the sound settings and I think because of this my cinnamon sound applet will not appear.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on my Lenovo G550. I noticed that Ubuntu disabled the startup sound played after login (I love it). I did some Googling and found on UbuntuGeek that we have to add this command
/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id=”desktop-login” --description=”GNOME Login sound”
to Startup Applications. I did that but I still don't hear the sound.
How do I turn off the login/logout sounds? What about the "you plugged/unplugged the power" sounds and other such things. I have looked everywhere and turned off everything I can find (with the exception of turning sound off completely) and those annoying sounds are still present. Any ideas?
Hello.
I have read questions on Changing startup sound in Ubuntu and Changing startup music in Ubuntu.
I understand how to rename 'desktop-login.ogg' and copy the sound I want as 'desktop-login.ogg'.
By default, Ubuntu 12.04 doesn’t play a sound when you log in. You can easily enable the log-in sound by adding a startup application. Here’s the steps:
1. Launch “Startup Applicaitons” from top right corner.
2.
so I have successfully set up my Envy 15 for Ubuntu 12.04 except for the sound, anyone have any ideas about how to get it working? I had to add blacklist snd-usb-audio to my alsa to stop pulseaudio from freezing on login and logout, but now no sound plays. Could anyone provide me some guidance?
I have 12.10 installed on a Thinkpad x230. It works great except for sound. I do have sound in the login page, but after I log in and get to the desktop, everything is perfectly silent.
I went through all the guides, nothing is muted, alsamixer looks ok in the console etc, but no sound plays and no errors are reported that I can see. I tried restarting pulseaudio and alsa but no change.
