Word processing is perhaps one of the most essential uses for a computer on any platform. The Linux OS offers more obscure word processors than other OSes; however, few of these apps offer users the staying power of AbiWord.
I have Abiword 2.9.2 and would like to either upgrade to 2.9.4, or downgrade so that I will have a fully functioning word processing programme.
I have found two difficulties.
1. I can download a version of Abiword form their website into Downloads, but after extracting I cannot move the file into the Office folder. It just moves back to Downloads.
Hello, I don't want either LibreOffice or Abiword on one of my Ubuntu (12.04) boxes. When I try to uninstall LibreOffice then apt-get automatically installs Abiword. Of course, Synaptic and Aptitude do the same, while dpkg simply refuses to remove several core LibreOffice packages because of certain ridiculous dependencies based off Gnome. This just doesn't seem right.
Heyas
So i'm still without an internet connection but had to reinstall my Fedora.
Luckily i have a local repo created from the F17 Install DvD, as well as a reposync'd updates i was able to obtian during a stay at a friend.

MSOffice?
Linux Planet: "OpenOffice.org isn't the only game in town for open source word processing. One of the best, and underexposed, open word processors is AbiWord."
In the past I preferred Abiword to Libre Office because it was simpler. However, the currentversion (2.8.6-7) scrunches text together vertically, making it unusable. Hints from previousForum posts suggests that installing Microsoft fonts from the AUR solves the problem. However, this seems like skating on thin ice to me, so I decided to move to Libre Office. The question is how to conver
This bug in abiword 2.9.2 is very annoying especially if you have a laptop and want to use touchpad for scrolling pages. That's why I would like to know is downgrading abiword to 2.8.6 version even possible or will it cause total #crunchbang to my system?
Hi,
Abiword is problematic in Lubuntu 12.04, but works well in 12.10 (same version, 2.9.2).
Surely this means that the problem lies in 12.04 rather than Abiword.
